My Little Flat

Since the day that I headed for Georgia, with nothing but my Bruno Magli loafers and a dream, I have undergone the drudgery of moving....3 times. Oh you have no idea how positively dreadful an ordeal this was. With the last move however I struck paydirt. I found home. Though at the time honestly I did not realize it. I was really in transition and the flat reflected that. Really at the time that I moved here I was in a sort of nomadic state. Also my social life received a huge transfusion...so I simply didn't have the time to make my flat anything near to being a showplace. It FUNCTIONED. My life was such that I was extremely busy, busy, busy. One day I took a look around. That is when I realized that I had done nothing to make my house mine. Or even put my stamp on the place. Well I am happy to say that these days,I have figured out that having a beautiful or at least pleasing living space is just as much an important part of you as having a FULL DATEBOOK...(which is always YUMMY). I look around and it brings me more pleasure than can be described to anyone when I arrive after a LONG work day and see the divine Mastercraft Custom made rug in my living room that I recently purchased....(dare not inquire as to the price...let's just say I felt ILL after I received it) or my darling Silver elephant that adorns my table... I still have so much that I want to now do to place my own special imprint on my flat, after all... your home IS your calling card! I find that now, I opt for a few more quiet evenings at home in my PJ's with a book and some soft big band playing in the background as opposed to party hopping and I cannot help to wonder if maybe it is because I have finally made my home...MY OWN... For all of you out there wherever you are who may be contemplating either moving or maybe punching up your own homes... these are somethings that you simply must own... A set of GOOD DISHES... And I am not referring to the Wal -Mart Variety. I say that every home should have at least ONE good set of dishes. You can find lovely China at your nearest Bloomingdales or even by perusing online. My favorite is Spode(Spode.com)..this China is TO DIE!!! Also you simply must have a fine set of flatware as well. This too can be found at maybe your nearest Bloomeys or again online. I am really into this site Antiquecupboard.com right now and they have the best flatware. This will make dining a treat. Then you have to have great sheets and towels. As I mentioned in an earlier blog if you have been keeping up (and I trust that You have) I favor Porthault sheets for my bed. Now I do have to advise, these are investment sheets. You do not purchase 20 sets.... Unless You are Jackie O(that's Jackie Onassis Kids....and if you don't know who she is...GOOGLE HER).I have 2 sets... and lets just say...these were more than I paid for my bed. Nevertheless you simply haven't slept til you have gone beddy bye on these darlings. As for towels since these are such functional pieces, I favor The Company Store for these. They have the best quality towels and bath linens at such reasonable price, that it is a sheer Heaven. I think that IF you have these things... you are at least off to a great start with having a wonderful home. I know they certainly make me feel better here. I'm now venturing into the world of paints and window treatments...Wish me luck....Can you imagine me painting? HA!
